Houston Native Wins Senior Sailor of the Year Award

by Rick Burke, Navy Office of Community Outreach Public Affairs
BREMERTON, Wash. – USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) recently announced Yeoman 1st Class Petty Officer Noelia Perez, from Houston, as the ship’s Senior Sailor of the Year.
Perez was chosen through a demanding screening process that looked at each Sailor’s involvement in the command during the last fiscal year as well as an oral board that tested Sailors’ knowledge on rules and regulations.
“The board process was intimidating,” said Perez. “Before the board it was a happy crowd. We hugged and congratulated each other and wished each other good luck. I thought I didn’t do so well but was still happy for the experience. I honestly felt anyone who was selected would be a good representation of John C. Stennis.”
John C. Stennis, homeported in Bremerton, Washington, is pierside conducting routine training as it continues preparing for its next scheduled deployment.
