Norfolk Native Wins Junior Sailor of the Year Award

by Rick Burke, Navy Office of Community Outreach Public Affairs

BREMERTON, Wash. – USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) recently announced Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Fuel) 3rd Class Petty Officer Rodedra White, from Norfolk, Virginia, as the ship’s Junior Sailor of the Year.
White was chosen through a demanding screening process that looked at each Sailor’s involvement in the command during the last fiscal year as well as an oral board that tested Sailors’ knowledge on rules and regulations.
“It’s an honor for me to have won this for my division and department,” said White. “It feels good to know that my hard work isn’t only recognized by my division but now the entire command. I only have two years left on the Stennis, so getting to spend one of those years as the Junior Sailor of the Year feels really great and it’s something that I am extremely proud of.”
John C. Stennis, homeported in Bremerton, Washington, is pierside conducting routine training as it continues preparing for its next scheduled deployment.
