MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Petty Officer 1st Class Gary Coit, a native of Appleton, Wisconsin, recently received a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for being named 2024 Recruiter in Charge of the Year for Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) Great Lakes. Additionally, Coit received a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his station being named 2024 Medium Station of the Year.

Coit, a 2005 graduate of Appleton East High School, joined the Navy 18 years ago.

"Both of these awards mean so much to not only me and my station but to our division as well," said Coit. "We are in a very small market with a population of only 100,000, compared to big cities that are not big at all. Both of these awards are not only a reflection on me, but my team as well. I would not be in my position without all the help from others along the way. I am incredibly proud to be named Recruiter in Charge of the Year, and for my station to be named Medium Station of the Year, made me so proud of my team beyond measure. I am so incredibly proud of every single person on my team, and all the hard work they have been putting in. I am incredibly proud and humbled, and I want to be a beacon of hope for anyone who thinks they can not do it."
