By Lt. j.g. Taylor Worley, Navy Office of Community Outreach

MILLINGTON, Tenn. — Petty Officer 3rd Class Santino Trevino, a native of Houston, Texas, serving aboard USS Roosevelt, recently earned a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

“Being awarded a  Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal means that the work I do matters,” Trevino said.

Trevino graduated from Klein Cain High School in 2022.

Trevino joined the Navy three years ago. Today, Trevino serves as a boatswain’s mate and is responsible for seamanship duties that include ship handling, maintenance and supporting safe operations at sea.

According to Navy officials, USS Roosevelt is one of the Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, designed to provide multi-mission capabilities while supporting operations around the globe.

Destroyers like Roosevelt routinely deploy with carrier strike groups, NATO partners and allied navies, providing advanced air, surface and subsurface defense.

This year, the Navy is commemorating its contributions to the nation’s defense as the United States celebrates 250 years of independence.

According to Navy officials, for more than 250 years, the Navy has sailed the globe defending freedom and protecting prosperity.

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and internet access relying on secure undersea fiber-optic cables, Navy leaders emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the country.

As Trevino and other sailors continue to perform missions, they take pride in serving their country in the U.S. Navy and protecting the American way of life.
